On turning 33

A sincere thank you to everyone for your birthday wishes. Life has interesting ways of pointing things out. Odd convergences of theme, coincidental and timely happenings that bear out a common song. This week has been like that. It is always a somewhat brazen thing to claim that "I learned something" this week. But I really think that I have. In short, I learned that I am connected to many genuinely good people, and I am grateful for their influence in my life. This, of course, shares its providential timing with my recent viewing of the movie Cloud Atlas, which for all its publicly-perceived dissonance of transition and editing, is in my esteem, an endeavor of storytelling unlike anything that has come before. And this film has moved me deeply. Bearing in mind the notions presented in the film, I would like to simply state here on Facebook, this most convenient of soapboxes, that I am happy to know you all in some way, in varying degrees. And I look forward to knowing all of you more. I have posted the finale theme to the movie here at the end of this post simply because I wanted to. "Outside, fat snowflakes are falling on slate roofs and granite walls. Like Solzhenitsyn, laboring in Vermont, I shall beaver away in exile. Unlike Solzhenitsyn, I shan't be alone."
