The Meaning of Yap

Attention all Yaps and all the ships at sea:

This kanji, 『葉』, (meaning "leaf") is apparently the kanji for our last name, "Yap." Everytime I meet someone from China proper (which happens a lot these days since it's an engineering school in Japan, go figure) and tell them my name, they always ask me if I can do Kung Fu or Wing Chun. Mainly because 『葉』 is the family name of Bruce Lee's teacher, Sifu Ip Man.

Oh, the answer is no, sadly I can't do any Kung Fu.

But seeing as how I can't trace my ethnic roots back very far, this small bit of knowledge regarding my family name is quite a nice thing to know.

*As a quick aside, the kanji shows up at the end of the name of Naruto's ninja village of Konoha (木の葉) Sorry, I couldn't resist.
